life notes; flaws and all

a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

Soul And Sound
Posted on April 21, 2018 by j.g.lewisLeave a comment

The future spoke too early
and we listened,
for a while. We abandoned
tradition that had served us
so well, for so long, and
took up with the
shiny new kind of magic.
For a while we enjoyed
convenience as
it was sold to us, as better,
more advanced, and available
digitally. Technology.
We learned not everything
is about the numbers.
Music has a soul
as much as a sound. It is
warmer, and true, and found
between the grooves.
For a generation it had
become quite an oddity,
treasured vinyl, once again,
once again a commodity.

Pretext

Unmotivated mornings,
unearned tears, borrowed wisdom,
plagiarized fears. Time-lapse ingenuity,
predictable pattern or passion,
naïve solutions, outright reaction.
Redemption, rejection, malignant
aches and pains, all is not lost,
nothing ever gained.
Moving violations, negligible
patience worthy of mention,
spit-out excuses, resist intervention.
Embryonic impulses to aftertaste of
regret, incidental remains of
the pretext you forget.
Sonorous inner-dialogue defeated
each day, ruminated incantations
with little to say. Crowded pockets
jingle with retroactive distrust,
take on reality full of malice or disgust.

Differently
Posted on April 19, 2018 by j.g.lewisLeave a comment

We have faith.

We have doubts,
commensurate
with
unknown fears and
undetermined factors.

That which you feel
I see as well,
differently.

We pretend
we belong.

In many ways
we share the same grief.

We are afraid of
all the wrong things.
We doubt
our faith.

Everything is temporary,
even our fears.
