Month: June 2018
Each note a Hippocratic oath
to a hypothetical melody
alive
medicine to heal
time signatures capture
every precious phrase
the right
and
the rapture
music
as it was intended
rhythm full of response
cradle to grave
nothing like ever before
forged with honesty
sealed with faith
ever more
rise to the surface
inspired
exact
forgiving as required
jazz
Kind of Blue
resonates
sixty years
give or take
Miles
bending air
breathing life
little more needs to be said
but it must
the times we live
the love we make
what matters most
half notes full of soul
simply
complicated
pure expression
passion greater than romance
more finite than death
1959
before this
cool was only a temperature

possessions:
they don’t just disappear.
You let them go, or were
responsible, in some way
for the loss.
Maybe its better, or maybe
it’s not entirely your fault,
but the sooner you allow
yourself room to
accept the reality,
you will spend less time
staring at the ceiling

We do not use the term neighbour, now, as much as we used to.
We do not live in neighbourhoods now; not like we used to.
Perhaps we do not know our neighbours?
Maybe we have lost our sense of what a neighbourhood is?
A neighbour does not have to be a person who resides next door, or on the same street.
One of the greatest definitions of a neighbour is a person who shows kindness or helpfulness to a fellow human being.
Are you a good neighbour?
Isn’t this a time when we could use a few more good neighbours?
Last week, in a downtown Toronto theatre, I watched the movie Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
The documentary was about the life, and kindness, of television personality Fred Rogers. Rogers spoke directly to his audience, both the children and the adults.
The fact the theatre was nearly full was testament to his popularity.
It was the first time in a long time, that I can remember, people actually clapped at the end of the movie.
It was that kind of a movie.
