All That Holds You Back

Posted on February 27, 2019 by j.g.lewis · Leave a comment

You can, for a day or three, step away from a conscious choice and remove yourself from the noise. But when can you safely step back? I’ve been absent from this space for a couple of weeks. I’m not sure if it was a conscious choice, but it was one I made. First I was […]

  • Choose To See

    As with all we offer,
    as with all we accept,
    we choose that which
    brings colour into
    our lives.
    Beauty is there,
    offered and accepted.
    Choose to see where
    it comes from.

  • Mondays are just young Fridays

The cool morning drizzle of yesterday’s rain upset many of my plans all over again.
It has been certain uncertainty day by day; recent days have been unpredictable. Seems the only thing accurate about the weather app on my mobile device is the date.
All I can do is live with it.
Intentions curtailed or plans derailed, I must use my mind to occupy time. There’s always something to do, especially on a holiday Monday.
Today is already brighter than anticipated, so I’m off to a good start.
I hope to make the best of the day.
I hope you do as well.
       Think of the possibilities.

    An ordinary day, common
         thoughts stretch out into
       occasional magnificence.

           Moments are fleeting,
    memories of which
        provide sustenance to
          your everyday life.

        We deserve as much
           as we allow ourselves.

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking.
They may get you thinking too . . .

  • Why?

This happened yesterday, in Toronto, in my city.
       What can I say?
       What should I think?
       Why?
       This can happen anywhere.
This man was walking down the street with a gun, apparently towards a school.
       What we he thinking?
       Why?

  • A New Approach

    Can’t we all do better?
We’ve all had time to experience what happens when change is forced upon us, and results of the past couple of years have been disappointing. The dystopia, doubt and debate continues to take a toll.
We need an attitude adjustment. Let’s try a new approach.
Get friendly. Brighten up the days ahead.

  • discovery and discipline

Creativity is not learned behavior as much as it is practice.
It is as much tenacity as talent, and taking the time.
Creativity is both discovery and discipline.

Only Wednesday

Wednesday sits naked
         and ordinary
             waiting

between the bookends of social Saturday
and restive Sunday. The day is
       little more

than a cluster of hours or a stop on the
 treadmill. Indecisive and
     lonely

nobody chooses a Wednesday. Nothing
happens
           on a Wednesday

and it’s the same each week.

Sept 11/01, a Tuesday. London Subway bombings: July 7/05, a Tuesday, also July 21/05,
and also a Tuesday. Assassinations: John Lennon on a Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. a
Thursday, and John F. Kennedy a Friday. Kurt Cobain’s body was discovered on a
Wednesday, but he chose his way out three days earlier. Nothing happens on a
Wednesday.

There are fewer concerts mid-week, and opening night is never a Wednesday. They
never open the Olympics on a Wednesday. Nobody gets married on a Wednesday.

Yet I will choose Wednesday, or I will start with a Wednesday. I'll begin with a page, a
place where I can plant my thoughts. I have many thoughts, each week, every day (even
on Wednesday), but I will commit to posting something once a week. There are seven
days to choose from, and I chose Wednesday.

Now I may post something else on some other day, I’m like that (a true Gemini). If I am
moved or if I have time, if the stars align or the moon gives me a nudge, or if something
is really bothering me, I won’t wait for Wednesday. But I will post something each
Wednesday.

Something will happen each Wednesday, every week. Right here. If you want to see, or
wish to be reminded, sign up. There will also be a daily breath (usually 140 characters or
less) and it will not be limited to Wednesday, but will, or should, arrive every day.

Until Wednesday . . .
