life notes; flaws and all

a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

this natural state

4:57 a.m.

at this hour

few are awake
fewer will notice

from warm beds

high above the streets

only the streetlights know
silence or the night chill

or both

quiet as can be

in a city that never sleeps
in a park that always listens

at a time for mysteries
of this natural state

sleep

darkness will soon be over

daylight will hide the secrets

the world will wake
and few will wonder

where you have been

               No generalities.
We seek
             a tangible measure
of anything specific
to know whom we are, even
                     where we have been.
Because
we want
             some sort of control
over any aspect of our life that
           becomes accessible to all.

     Is nothing private?

We keep
              thoughts to ourselves,
   secrets if possible; because
         we can,
                             if we can.
We need
             to breath independently,
     each mouthful of air.

          Inhale.

       Hold it,
                   own it,
            as long as you can.

                            Exhale,
                            let it out.
Absolve yourself
                            of the guilt
     of keeping things inside.

     Try to break the cycle

                again.
