life notes; flaws and all

a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

Generous Life
Posted on December 22, 2022 by j.g.lewisLeave a comment

Each day, going forward, those remnants of darkness will give way to the light that stretches and grows and illuminates more of the generous life before us.
As we approach the New Year, every day a little more light, we find scattered fractions of time and thought. Darkness allows us time to reflect with increased hours to dream and discover our ways and our weaknesses.
   Each day we step forward.
Take a few moments, here and there, to consider where you are more than where you want to be.

We only know what we know,
                  but know there is change.
          Indeed we know the darkness,
             and will wait here
                             for the light;
               a little more each day.
                   We do not always know
                    what will come or when
                          it will arrive and
distinguish between light and heat.
     It will only become colder
     before we reach the brightness
     and warmth of spring.
Day by day, a little more.
                         We settle in for winter,
                                   so much remains.
                  We must remain content
                   knowing what will come.

the time that remains
Posted on December 20, 2022 by j.g.lewisLeave a comment

What will you do with these final days, of this final month, ahead of a fresh set of days, weeks and months of a new year?

Minute by minute the hours tick away; the nature of time becoming more obvious daily as we watch 2022 drift into the annals of our many yesterdays.

There is today.

What have you not done, or said, in the past that needs to be completed, or acknowledged, or started, or taken care of?

Can you live another day knowing what you have not done?

Can it be done in the time that remains, or will it have to wait until next year?

We seem to run out of time before we run out of excuses.
