   I try to
learn and
remember
all I should
      know.
Does that
give me
an excuse
to sometimes
         say no?
   I try
to understand
and
        accept
all that I can.
Does that
make me
stronger
or a
weaker man?
   I try to
look past or
forget
      mistakes
I have made.
Does that
give me
a reason to
try again
           today?

A flame captures
attention and lights up
the imagination, but
beneath it all the candle
stands straight and tall.
Even unlit, a candle offers
potential. Available for those
who wish to see, allowing
itself to be consumed,
knowing its light will provide
comfort and strength.
A candle illuminates both
hope and faith.
Find peace where you are,
burn proudly, give off all
you know, so others may find
a way through the darkness.

All winds blow harsh,
January’s breath
seeps deep to the marrow.

your boots by the door
and make time
for stocking feet
and stillness. Find warmth
and comfort
