life notes; flaws and all

a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

The Art Of Everyday
Posted on June 30, 2018 by j.g.lewisLeave a comment

Art is everywhere:
structured or unstructured,
amateur or accidental,
professional and circumspect,
confrontational or mundane,
curated and manipulated,
it is right there.
Art:
take the time, each day, to
take it in, wherever you are.
Question it,
appreciate it, consider all
the implications of
the expression of life.

Today I am off to see
THE ART OF BANKSY
at a pop-up gallery in Toronto.
This is the largest Banksy exhibit ever assembled, with more than 80 pieces on display (one was recently stolen as the exhibit was being set up – shame).
Of course I will take my camera, but between here and there I will surely notice something that will catch my eye. I may photograph it, or it may inspire a poem; you can never tell how art will affect you.
What I do know is that I will keep my eyes, and my mind, open to art.
Art reminds us where we are, where we have been, and where we are going.
Art is not only a reason to go somewhere, but a reason to feel something.
Enjoy the art of everyday life that surrounds us, consumes us, and makes each day more bearable.

Fact
Posted on June 29, 2018 by j.g.lewisLeave a comment

Guns keep killing people.
I’m just putting that out there.
I am just stating the obvious.
It is simply a fact.
It’s a fact that will continue
to prove itself correct
each time
there is a shooting.
Guns kill people,
and they keep killing people.
It is a fact.
It is.
It is common knowledge.
A common occurrence;
too common an occurrence
if you ask me, but
you needn’t ask
because the facts
speak for themselves.
Guns.
Kill.
People.
They did yesterday, and
the day before, and
last weekend multiple times
in my city (more than most
weekends, more than many
cities, and a lot more times
this year). My city is really
not that different
from any other place where
there are guns and people.
Guns are everywhere.
People are everywhere.
Guns kill people.
They did yesterday in
a very noticeable way.
We will grieve the event
and question why. We will
ask questions of ourselves
and questions of our
politicians and each other.
Fact.
And we will hope, and
we will pray, but
guns
keep
killing people
anyway.
It is a fact.
It is far too obvious.
How can we change
the fact without
allowing emotions
to become involved.
Just the facts.
How do we deal with
a fact, and how can we
alter the fact that guns
kill people?
I’m just putting that out there.
Just the fact.

Cycle Of Experience
Posted on June 28, 2018 by j.g.lewisLeave a comment

A little rain, here and there, will not discourage me, or hold me back. My vision may be blurred today, but I proceed anyway.
Each one of us deals with impairments and obstacles — physically, emotionally, or temporarily — but we have to keep moving forward.
We must.
To give up, or to step away from a vision, will forever alter your path.
Acknowledge your troubles, and seek the answers that are not provided.
Keep asking the questions that matter, and keep asking yourself why.
The solutions to your problems are not always apparent, and it make time and research to further determine if the answers are acceptable, but don’t stop.
Don’t let a bad day ruin the weeks ahead.
The rain will stop, the sun will shine, and you will dry off.
The cycle of experience will better prepare you for all that is ahead.
