life notes; flaws and all

a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

Until You Suffer
Posted on May 31, 2017 by j.g.lewis // 2 Comments

Old soul, that of a poet, voice
drenched in whiskey, melancholy
and grief. A long time to bleed the blues;
they don’t happen by themselves.
You won’t fully understand
until you suffer.

Long shadow of the darkest day
reaches out, a reminder always of
the brother you cannot forget.
Nothing and nobody will let you,
when the band
carries your name.

Decades of harsh addiction, criticism,
celebrity gossip and half-truths. A
survivor. More than a relic, more
than a footnote, not a turning point
but a sign on the
rock and roll highway.

Playing for yesterday, like he
meant it, heritage fills time with
old emotion and the truth. Resolution
comes only when allowed. Tomorrow
is no longer his, but
the voice rings out forever.

Offered And Accepted
Posted on May 30, 2017 by j.g.lewisLeave a comment

Gratitude is not always
proportionate.
  There are big thanks for
little things and smaller,
more conservative, replies
to larger gestures we may
not fully comprehend or
even totally appreciate, yet.
  Still, an expression of
gratitude in any size, shape
or form, should be offered
and accepted openly.
  That is the longitude and
latitude of gratitude.
We really do have so much
to be thankful for.
