life notes; flaws and all

a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

My Admission
Posted on December 5, 2018 by j.g.lewis // 2 Comments

I am not hungry,
but starving; this inner need (or want), a craving
for anything pure, authentic,
and nourishing.

A sandwich or salad, unlike
what I have known, or consumed.

Only after I am sufficiently sated
will I be able to do battle another day, or sleep
without these images interrupting this night.
It is dark.

Ego and emotion command
too much space and mind.

Am I yet another ambiguous miracle, or
just another carney hawking candy apples
and games of chance?
Step right up.

The midway is crammed. Lovers
hand-in-hand. A noisy crowd.

Turn off the music.
I can smell the horse shit between the trailers,
sawdust, and aftershave. I can only
taste warm beer.

I need greater nutrition. I suffer
for having paid my admission.

Our Personal Space

When it seems different, but
the same, or when it becomes
all too familiar, yet we know
it has changed, we begin to
doubt.
Relationships will expand or
contract in proportion to the
time and space allotted.
The possibilities could well
become probabilities if we
don’t reflect on whether we
have invested enough of our
self in that which provides
the greatest benefits.
We always need to nurture
the close relationships in our
lives to fill our personal space.
It is well worth the effort,
don’t doubt yourself.

Mondays are just young Fridays

Our presence is, somehow,
built upon our past.
Our future requires us to
be present, and will, in ways
obvious or unexplained, guide
us through the mysteries we
experience daily.
Present or past, we enjoy our
time more substantially with
those who truthfully share
common experiences.
By seeking to understand
where we are coming from, we
are better able to deal with all
that still remains unknown,
uncomfortable, and even
unresolved in your heart,
mind and soul.
Emotions will always play the
biggest role in settling the
turmoil which can upend your
life; share them with pride,
honestly and fully.
You are who you are because
of all you have been able to
deal with.
Knowing there is someone who
will listen, better prepares you
for all that is ahead.
