a decade of days…

2025 is an anthology of thoughts du jour, unsolicited advice, messages of peace, philosophy, poetry, and photographs from the past decade of Mythos & Marginalia. In unchronological order, the years not as important as the dates, each post a reminder (if only to myself) that I do indeed write every damn day.

August 1

august

July dives in, clothes and all,
brash and unafraid of his being.
His time is careless, rushed, and
often leaves whisker burn on
a lover’s face.
August is more tentative.
Gently she slips off her socks,
dips a toe, and tests the water.
She knows days will grow shorter,
temperatures cooler,
and the night quieter.
August is mindful of more time
for fireflies, skinny dipping, and
seductive whispers.
August will always leave
with a tender embrace, promising
to return.
Cherish your time with August.
July has already forgotten
what you meant.

remain open

Dreams, feelings, relationships,
emotions, work, life (even death),
it’s not all black and white.
You’ve got to remain open to each
shade of grey, and those jubilant
and resplendent colours.
Find your perspective — strong or
subtle, light or dark — within each
hue of every day.
Look. Listen. Feel the tones and
show off your range.
What colour will you be today?

August 2

for you

Self-care, do you dare
to interrupt all that is
going on every day,
and find a moment
or two to deal with
only you?
All that other stuff,
and all those other
people, can just wait,
can’t they, for a while?
What could be more
important than you?
While making all the
lists and other plans
of all you have to do,
set aside a bit of time
explicitly for you?

cloud songs

    The night
accepts the silence,
     appreciates
     the soft, steady breath
         of lovers
         and dogs.

        New Moon
shows as no moon can.
    High resolution
    darkness softening
        hard edges
      and difficult lives.

     Here we are,
part of the silence,
immune to
time and temperature,
      and words
      once spoken.
