  • more meaning

    Awoken by thoughts
or a voice shouting on the street below
            or
                   nothing

         3 a.m. or later
                  window open    comfortably cool

this June rain makes more of an impression
       in isolation
                                   silence challenges
    both history and the future
       our daily lives and routines

       only a reminder
                       humans need humans

             Craving physical contact
    we all need   friendship    security
    compassion  and  hope

     We need more meaning on
how we really spend our lives

    The indisputable truth:
            All of us have sinned

    Now we realize everyone needs
             Community

    crisis or chaos
        we are denied

guilt will find a place to rest

how do you sleep at night?

  • take a stand

    An active pacifist,
    I am                        resilient, steadfast,
    passive,                  yet passionate
    about all that inspires me.

                             Protest.

    Upsetting,
                             at times confusing,
we take a stand when we can
    but not always
    when we should.
                                                      Do we
    choose to ignore
    the significantly unsettling actions
of them who believe in something else?

                                Why?

    How can we know
    the truth untold, but
    exhibited so many ways?

    Are we not blessed
    with perception?                    Can we
    know the ignorance evident
    in public displays of rejection?

    Stand up for what matters.
    Make it matter.          More.

                                                      Can you
    believe in your heart, in
    your soul?            In me?

There is so much more to say.
    Will you?              Speak up.

  • not the same

    the moon changes
    the month changes
    the mood changes
    the mind changes
    nothing ever
    stays the same
    not rights
    not rhythm
    not hope
    not blame

    without changes
    there is no change

    this moon is change
    this month is change
    the mood is change
    the time is change
    everything always
    subject to change
    the words
    the wisdom
    the peace
    the game

    deny culpability
    you will never change

  • until you suffer

Old soul, that of a poet, voice
    drenched in whiskey, melancholy
    and grief. A long time to bleed the blues;
    they don’t happen by themselves.
    You won’t fully understand
    until you suffer.

Long shadow of the darkest day
reaches out, a reminder always of
    the brother you cannot forget.
Nothing and nobody will let you,
    when the band
    carries your name.

    Decades of harsh addiction, criticism,
    celebrity gossip and half-truths. A
survivor. More than a relic, more
than a footnote, not a turning point
    but a sign on the
    rock and roll highway.

    Playing for yesterday, like he
meant it, heritage fills time with
old emotion and the truth. Resolution
    comes only when allowed. Tomorrow
    is no longer his, but
    the voice rings out forever.

  • soultalk

    The inner voice,

    an inner choice

    to hear what matters

    amid the distractions and

    less-than-intimate interactions

    life lays out

    before you.

    Suffering the indignity of

less space to feel or see,

    you know you must

    keep moving forward.

    Surrounded by noise, day

    after day, you continue

    trying to listen

    or

    wanting to say

    all of those thoughts, and

    words stuck in your soul.

    Own your emotions.

In a world full of shouting

    Sometimes

a whisper will find its way.
