Mythos & Marginalia

2015 – 2025: a decade of days

  • a fresh view

It snowed hard last night, my view of this city from 11 floors up lessened by the white glow, even in the darkness. I’m not sure you would call the snowfall unexpected; for days the media chatter predicted an impending doom.
We are now a week into January, so it only seemed natural.
There is a beauty in snow, one that uncovers gentle childhood memories while cloaking the dismal sights of a city flush with societal problems and pain. For a while we can witness a fresh view.
I enjoyed listening to the crunch under my feet as I stepped into the morning chill. Soon the sound of shovels and snow-moving equipment will break the pleasant silence as Toronto’s Sunday traffic picks up its pace.
In a few hours the succulent softness will become grey and slushy and then will be gone. The city will return to its day-to-day familiarity.
Still, for a moment, I enjoyed a little break in the momentum.

  • day-to-day life

    Success is subjective.
How we measure ‘success’ varies at each point of a life. Everyone judges success differently: financially, professionally, artistically, spiritually and morally.
How one interprets success can be as challenging as how you construe a horoscope, a poem, or bible passage. Clarification is not always obvious, or apparent, in day-to-day living.
       What is success?
       What is sustainable?
What is routine to some can become a rut to somebody else. Perhaps sticking to my own practice or pursuit is success enough?
My horoscope always gives me something to think about.

    It’s time.
After a wonderful week or so with family and friends — and a few days concentrated consideration of plans, goals and intentions — then gently settling into another year, it is time to step ahead.
Like a new pair of shoes, 2024 is going to take a period of adjustment as you slowly get used to the feel and find your stride. Move slowly at first; be mindful of your movement.
       Wake up!!
Get up and get outside, you’ve been sleeping long enough.Time to make things happen.

“Isn’t it amazing the way the
    future succeeds in creating
    an appropriate past?”
                                         –John Leonard

    Where you are now
    will alter your past, if
    you choose to look
    back, in the future.
