life notes; flaws and all

a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

Shine On

Does a single candle
lessen the darkness or
increase the light?
Can a solitary person
show you the way?

We come across spirits,
certain whiles in our lives,
who become our candles.
Each time ignited we adjust
our eyes.

Days remain through night.
We begin to notice
what we haven’t. Before.
Do we bask in the brightness.
or feel vulnerable?

At times we extinguish
a candle, because it is strong.
Overwhelming. Afraid,
not of the light
but where it shines.

Be a candle. Be the flame,
take away darkness, shed light
on the shame. Open
your eyes to the shadows
and the spark.

Shine as you can, as
you will, as you must.
Be a force and a focus.
Light is to be shared,
in the glow we must trust.

in the moment

sunshine and silence
slight breeze and a book
decades pass in minutes
tensions forsook

words the facile vehicle
wending through pages
in the now or the moment
through awkward ages

discover a heroine
setting or lover
sequester the mind
in between the covers

This month is all about poetry.
Something new every day.

no dreams no promises

tonight no dreams
last night the same
then clouds flat
pressed against the
sky allowing nothing
to pass through
except rain

tonight no rain
no dreams no clouds
even stars are silent
there is rain
somewhere surely
perhaps dreams as well
or promises

no light not tonight
the moon in its
darkness only gestures
no promises no dreams
only intentions only
a new moon can offer
new beginnings
