A Reality Once
Only a photograph
a split second
less than a breath
greater than a shadow,
light
light
more than a memory.
Laughter and the silence
of sunburnt summers,
innocence and wonder.
My father’s eyes
captured
the measure and
magnificence of youth.
Family, friendship,
and what will
never be again.
Only a photograph.
Images and snapshots
beyond dreams, but
a reality once. Still.
