Beauty is a sandwich.
Or is it the trees
surrounding the picnic bench?
It is the lover
you are dining with,
or could it be
the solitude of eating
by yourself?
Beauty is delicious.

The incandescent fragrance of lilacs
hangs in the breeze, enhancing
silence, accentuating the freedom
of the sleeping city at 3 a.m.
A certain stillness, cars rest in suburban
driveways; toxic fumes dampened,
leaving little to blatantly disrupt the
balance of a slightly-starry night.
Restless romantics lay half-awake, alive
and questioning all likely answers
slipping through the window. For
just a while we breathe and sleep.

more silence or
less noise, limited people
to steal away oxygen
stoking the brain.
Conscious thought in a
less conspicuous manner,
room to breathe,
space to see
what can or cannot be.
If you decide.
Decisions are easier at night.
